Ok. I know flaring is a good thing only for short periods of time, and I wanted to try him to flare for a bit, to avoid constipation whatsoever. But he just… Doesnt do it.
I've tried EVERYTHING, big mirrors, small mirrors, digital pictures of bettas, papers in the format of a betta, colorful objects, hand printed pictures of other fish and other bettas, male and female, food stimulation. And since I've got him he simply… doesn't flare. Not even once because of environment change or anything.
At the place my friend got him before handing it to me bc he couldn't care for it (I was there at the time), the guys had a lot of betta male fish, and when we wanted to see one, they would put their little cups close to another male's cup so they could flare and so we could see his body + gills better yk. When they did that with Tank Sinatra he… Simply couldn't care less. Also, I asked my friend if he ever flared with him, and he said that not even once too, he had a permanent flaring mirror at his tank that he liked to swim around, but not to look at it or interact.
I swear, is there anything wrong with him or is he just a chill guy? He has a tank mate snail that he LOVES hanging around too, when the guys at the fish shop exposed other bettas to snails + shrimp they ALL flared. He didn't, is he just… stoic?

A lot of bettas just don’t flare. Even some of the “Indo” or “Ghost” Plakat Bettas bred specifically for fighting in SouthEast Asia don’t flare. My last boy never really flared.
Neither does mine. I was wondering. Mirrors didn’t help.
some bettas don’t really flare as much. have you tried giving him live feed? the hunting drive might get him to flare. i feel like they flare less if they get more comfortable with their tank setup
