Trout season is here and salt water fishing has been slowing down drastically here in so cal. I’ve been doing some research because I want to get into trout fishing. I pretty much don’t know much about fresh water fishing I was looking at the Okuma sst trout spining rod as my first fresh water rod. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions or recommendations on any gear? Preferably I would like a rod I can get away with fishing different types of ways including jigging small spoons, drop shoting and even a Carolina rig since I’ve noticed that’s pretty popular with trout?

I’m wondering if this would be ok for large mouth bass and blue gill as well?

As far as reels I see everyone mostly using a 1000 reel the smallest I have is a 2500 shimano marvel so I’m guessing I would also have to purchase another reel?

Any tips or advice would be appreciated as far as line rigs etc

The reel is a bit big and ultralight is a tad underpowered for largemouth, but it’ll be an absolutely killer trout and bluegill setup.
