First ever Reddit post but wanted to share, I’m rather proud of my setup yet no one else in my life seems to enjoy it as much as me so I’ve come to the place where us fish folk reside 😂
This is my first ever tank after years and years of watching fish videos on YouTube and meticulously planning the day I get my tank, it is a Juwel Rio 180.
I added the water on the 12th of November and is currently home to 50 fish! I got the local fish store to squeeze a load of sponge filters into a bag to get it up a running and instantly cycled, dosed with raw ammonia the next day and those lovely little beneficial bacteria’s gobbled it up for after a few hours and I was only left with Nitrate in the tank and I was ready to go. Didn’t add all the fish at once but the water parameters are bang on and the electric blue rams I added weekend just gone have already laid eggs 😂
Currently home to:
1 x Zebra Pleco L46
11 x green rasbora
1 x honey gourami
7 x Adolfoi Corydora
2 x electric blue ram
4 x amano shrimp
10 x Rummy nose tetra
6 x Candy cane tetra
8 x Marbled Hatchetfish
Powered by an Aquael 1500 canister with 5kg of bio home ultimate media in it, with an inline Aquael heater and C02 for the plants.
I also changed out the light unit the aquarium came with for a Chihros Universal WRGB which replaces the original design, it is water proof and offers much better lighting for the plants and a much wider spectrum of colours to make the fish pop. The back lighting is just a cheap LED strip from Amazon that I stuck onto the stand but looks wicked of an evening.
I now spend to much time watching the tank instead of the TV above it, life is great 😊
If anyone has any questions and wants to add anything please feel free!

Wow you really did your research!!! This looks genuinely stunning, I’d be staring Into the tank for hours on end. I love how your hard scapes are laid out, they look so elegant! This is truly awesome and if this is only 2 weeks into the hobby I can’t imagine what you’ll put together years into it!! Truly awesome work
Yeah I’d echo the research I’m pretty new to the hobby myself but it’s not often you get a tank like this two weeks in on this sub.
I’ve got the same filter currently on the way, just switched because it has great reviews and I saw it for a good price.
That’s a lot of fish in a small time frame with young plants though or have they been growing out beforehand? Are they able to keep up with your nitrates? What’s under the sand?
What’s the thing you have top left next to the drop checker? I’ve just been thinking about floating plants and forgot all about those rings to keep them contained, thanks for reminding me.
Completely understand the ‘no one else understands’ thing 😅 my Mrs gives me the blank stare often enough.
Looks brilliant mate, well done!
Big tank.. real plants.. decent substrate.. great filtration.. great light.. using L numbers.
Why can’t everyone be like this? LOL
Nice aquascape, fantastic for a beginner! Good move to include the gravel around the boulders, a couple of larger river pebbles would have tied it all in slightly more naturally but the overall effect its great!
Looks stunning, way to go!
