I have a daiwa bg 23 sw 8000
It says I can pe4 can spool 300 mts into the reel, and so i did.

Does it look right? Is it too much?

Any advise would be great.

  1. It looks a bit over-spooled to me, but it might be bc there’s not enough tension. The easiest way I resolve it after I’ve already spooled it is to basically let out all the line while trolling and reel it back in with a spinnerbait or something that has a little resistance. Hasn’t been a problem since I decided it was worth it to get a spooler tool. They’re like $10-20.

  2. Looks overspooled. I would take some off until it about lines up to the beveled edge on the reel. Maybe even slightly less than the beveled edge.

A touch too much line and it’s spooled pretty loosely. There’s an angled lip/flange at the top edge of your spool, you want your line to sit about 1/8″ or so from the inside edge of the lip, if that makes sense. You also wanna spool it with more tension-the line will lay more neatly, it’ll come off the spool more smoothly, and you wont deal with as many tangles and wind knots

Put it on the rod and string it through. If you open the bail and a bunch of line “jumps off” you probably overfilled it, though that looks like braid, so it might not be as obvious as it would be with mono. It looks somewhat overfilled to my eye though, the line is sitting just proud of the reel.
