I'm getting a Tatula and I'm rigging it on a MHMF 7 foot rod. What type of line should I get for it? This setup is going to be for open water fishing without concern for running into structure or cover. My lures are all in the 1/2-1 OZ range, and most of what I'm throwing are crankbaits, glidebaits, jerkbaits, and a couple spooks.
Thanks guys!

12-15lb Seaguar Invizx
I use 30# braid on most of my baitcasters (30 handles better and digs in less than lighter braid). I FG knot to fluoro leaders – 12′ in my clear water. 8# or 10# for jerkbaits, 12# for most of my crankbaits.
I personally use straight fluoro on most my setups other than topwater. I’d agree with the 12-15lb invizx but not sure i’d be throwing that upper range with the 12.
Two options:
1) 30 pound braid and add an optional leader depending on what you’re doing (12-15# depending on cover and bait weight). I do this but with 50# braid (cuz I use it for stripers) on a heavy action mod fast rod and I have no complaints.
2) straight 12-15# mono or copolymer. Berkeley Big Game mono or Green Meanie copolymer. Effective but cheap enough that you can replace it if you backlash real bad. I did this on the same rod I mentioned in my first option with 20# mono and it also worked well.
I like PP Slick v2 a lot. 0.13mm should do. Thinner would cut through water better if you fish deep but if you get backlash it will be harder to untangle.
I use 30 lb braid backing to 12 lb fluoro on my tatula and its smooth as hell
I have .18 spiderwire 12braid on it but i fish in a city with alot of bikes in the water so i fish a bit heavy
10-12# floro or mono (better for spooks bc it floats) Don’t go crazy on $$ bc you’re new and you’re gonna backlash. Mono is cheaper and a little stretchy (good for cranks) but if you decide floro-I recommend something like bass pro brand or seagar red.
12-15 pound fluorocarbon is perfect for those crankbaits and glidebaits! helped me avoid backlashes when i was learning too.

If you plan on throwing topwaters then 15-17lbs copolymer or mono should do you well.
If you’re good at tying knots and don’t mind having to retie then you could do 20-30lbs braid to a 15-17lbs fluorocarbon/mono leader depending on what you’re throwing.
Fluorocarbon, while the best choice for most baits you listed, is expensive and really finicky; if you are in fact new to baitcasters, I would save the money for a season and use cheaper copoly/mono while you get used to how to work the reel. Trust me, you WILL have to respool at some point due to a crazy backlash.
Uh this depends on the specific application. Can’t really answer. Most useful would be 30lb braid to whatever leader material. Beyond that no one can give you the right answer. Maybe you need mono, co poly, fluoro, straight braid…
I use 12 pound Sufix Siege mono on my baitcasting reel
Tripolymer mono or good florocarbon. I use Tatsu or R18 Ltd for florocarbon. They’re the easiest to manage
Chatterbait, spinnerbait crankbait….I use KastKing Tripolymer
Bottom contact, weightless plastic, jerkbait…I use florocarbon
