So I got my hands in another tank today and the story behind it is that he took a bunch of rocks and sediment and silt from the james river. Put it inside of a tank and called it a self sustaining ecosystem. I found no living snails, tons of hair algae, a java fern, a river fish and another mystery fish. I can't id mystery fish so I need you guys help in his identification.

Maybe a better shot, reminds me of a coach of some type ,idk. He wants to hide and seems very nocturnal.

I own 8 black kuhli loaches. Id say with 95% certainty thats what this is.

Heres one of mine a few days after i got him. He was also super skinny, albeit not as skinny as yours.
Theyre super shy and mostly nocturnal. Mine will ONLY come out at feeding times, or during lights out. So make sure youre putting some food in there for him near bed time.
Amazing fish though, loads of personality and super cute. Probably one of my favourites in the tank rn.
You guys are awsome…I will do my part and research and make sure he is nursed to a healthy size.
