Ok be honest, should I mount my trolling motor on the side near me, or on the stern

I have a Vibe Sea Ghost 130 (13ft kayak). The motor is a Minn Kota Endura C2. Now, I know putting it on the back is best for steering, and the Sea Ghost 130 has the foot controls for a rudder that I could probably modify to work to steer it. But then how would I control the speed???

I've seen a couple guys do it like that but with trolling motors that don't have a handle.

So, in order to control it, I was going to mount it on the side near me, but is it THAT terrible to control/turn with it mounted on the side? Please help me
