the reel is a 7,8,9 weight that got from cabellas for about $90 the line I got in a kit for about $50.

The rod is a Browning 8'6" 6 weight from my grandpa

  1. I hope you enjoy fishing the rod from your grandpa. The only thing I can see that you will want to change is adding backing to the line. The backing attaches to the reel, fills up space on the reel, then attaches to the fly line which fills the rest of the space on the reel. You can probably get away without it for a while but if you hook a big fish that takes a lot of line you’ll want to have it.

  2. Personally I prefer the rod butt to extend past the reel. That keeps the reel out of the dirt if you prop your rod up somewhere
