My little boy passed a few weeks ago, I had him for almost two years. He was my first betta, I got him at an event that gave away the poor fish as prizes. and looked up what better food he could get and realized what wrong info we have about take care of bettas.
I got him a 5 gallon tank the same day (it was the biggest I found in the nearby pet store), and since then I upgraded it with all the fixings I could get (sponge filter, heater, silk plants, almond leaves, and better food and treats).
I've grown so attached to him, and I still go up to his tank instinctively, forgetting that he's gone.
He suddenly got rapidly sick for less than two weeks before he passed. And it was horrible seeing him suffer at the end, but I continued with all the treatments possible and fought as long as he kept fighting.
I miss having a betta, but at the same time I remember the anxiety I got when he got sick, and even at times worrying the heater would malfunction.
In general they are so tiny and fragile and I worry a lot đ
And I know its silly, but thinking of trying to find live plants before getting a new betta (I still cant find any) is already making me feel guilty that my old betta didn't get any.
So my question, when did you get a new betta after loosing a previous one? And what did you upgrade?

I have about two dozen, I used to breed them so it isnât a big deal for me to replace one once it passes. Usually I will recheck the tank parameters to ensure theyâre healthy, do a 30% water change, add extra tannins before I put a new betta in the old tank. Hope this helps sorry about your fish.
It took me almost a full year to get Slushie after my Bubbys passed away.
Youâll know when it feels right. Donât feel guilty about how you cared for your precious betta though, you did the best you could and you obviously loved him very much.
Sending you positive vibes and love, OP
It’s been a couple years since my last betta, I just haven’t been able to bring myself to get another one. I mainly keep corys and some cool ghost shrimp now. I still like them, but for some reason I dont get as attached to them.
