i put down my betta fish recently (blunt force trauma to the head). he’d been deteriorating and at some point I decided to put him in a hospital tank so it’d be easier on him but he wasn’t recovering and seemed more sluggish by the day. i’d read that the most humane way of euthanasia for a betta fish was crushing.
I managed to finally have the strength to do it after staring at his lifeless body for so long (he used to always come up and swish back and forth as he waited to be fed and loved interacting with any humans)
It was very traumatizing, and after id told my coworkers and family and friends about it once they’d asked about him they all laughed because the idea of crushing a fish was so bizarre and now i feel even worse
