It seems to be embedded into something more solid on the front. I'm unfamiliar with Lures, but is there a way to remove the whole Hook? If not, what would be good to cut it off?

Why would you? The plastic is molded around a jig head attached to the hook. You’d have to rip the whole plastic apart

i would sharpen the hook with something instead of cutting it out of the lure.
i bet you can sharpen it many times. just know once you start with sharpening the hooks will tend to rust more so keep the sharpening tool in you gearbag
