Hi! I totally lucked out last week and picked up a gorgeous bow front aquarium at goodwill. It’s even got the hidden compartments in the back for a filter and heater!

I was hoping to get a couple goldfish but I never realized they need so much space 🥲 this thing’s only 10-15 gal so absolutely no goldfish lol.

I’ve done a little research and went to the pet store last night, I loved meeting their barbs, Cory cats, and tetras. The cories especially seemed like silly little angels lol. Are there more species I should check out?

I think the ideal fish for me would be:
* hardy and low-maintenance
* plant eater?
* good tankmate for cherry shrimp

  1. I’ve heard of people having luck with Killifish and white cloud minnows! Certain barbs will mess with your shrimp, so be careful with them! I have three gold barbs in my 65 and they’ve eaten baby snails, shrimp, just about anything

    I think a school of regular cories would be too much for such a small tank. However, pygmy cories exist and might be a good option, though they are known to be a bit different from their bigger cousins, mainly staying mid-water instead of being a bottom feeder. Shrimp and snails can peacefully coexist with pygmy cories as well, so they could be good options to add with the fish.

  3. Hi! Welcome to the hobby and good on you for realizing and accepting that a goldfish is not a good fit for your tank.

    Maybe ember tetras? Or I have pristella tetras and love them. Online photos don’t do justice of how transparent they are. You could also do guppies, mollies etc. Cories are also very fun but in my experience they can be a touch fragile. You could also get multiple. Maybe 6-8 cories and 6-8 tetras?
