We got this male beta, Silo, on 11/16/25 and he just passed overnight today. Please help me figure out what went wrong so that we can help maintain a healthy life for our next one.
- He was healthy and active the past few days up until last night
- Water heater consistently kept tank at 81 degrees
- Fed small pinches of beta flake food 2x a day
- Properly dechlorinated the water before we put him in and adjusted him to the water before releasing him into the tank
- Had lots of stimulating toys and hiding spots (the sub was his favorite)
- Has all proper filtering supplies in place
- Did not cycle the water longer than 1 day
- Had not cleaned his tank yet as it had only been 2.5 weeks
- Did not remove uneaten food (have two small kids and it got away from me)
Our suspicions lead us to believe it was a water bladder/constipation issue due to overfeeding based on how he was found (laying on his side at the bottom of the tank beside his beloved sub) but wanted to ask the Reddit experts too ❤️🩹
