I dont think Ive shared my current setup for "offshore" fishing. Wanted to show you guys whats been working for me.
Ive been fishing off this old town Malibu PDL (aka salty pdl) for the past 6 months or so. This is the current setup thats working really well for me.
It is motorized, but I still pedal it to get more speed, excercise, and when I reach the fishery I only pedal.
Some of the upgrades you see here:
- Bixpy K1 pro angler motor. It is mounted on the stern with a plate adapter I made myself.
- engel small livebait cooler. This is for when I catch some bait, but I mostly fish with plastics.
- yakattack 12in tracks. I installed these om the rear to secure the bixpy battery to the kayak and to attach any accesories I might need, right now I clippee my stringer to it.
- yakattack 4in track. On the bow to secure the livebait cooler.
- hummingbird 5in sonar.
- handmade milk crate. I made this years ago, I use it to store everything and often carry 2 drybags in it.
- Navarre aluminum rudder. Stiffer than the oem plastic. With the navarre bolt on it it is much better than the oem setup.
- navarre steering knob.
- Navarre pedal drive insert. This is really nice to paddle the kayak or if for some reason I am using only the motor, it reduces the drag created by the PDL.
That is pretty much it. Overall I am very satisfied with this kayak. It is very fast and light, easy to transport, nimble and takes on the chop very well. The Bixpy motor is more than enough to get it moving and lasts me the entire day. It is super easy to install.
And thats pretty much it. I cant recommend this kayak enough. Ive havent had any of the issues some people have when launching through surf water accumulating on the front. I weigh 165lbs for reference.
