20 gallon shallow almost barely overhanging on the edges of my shelf. It’s all solid wood and I was also planning on adding another vertical reinforcement in that right cubby part.

If the surface begins to bow, those vertical supports will put uneven pressure on the tank. No overhang is safe and if the surface isn’t treated for water, it won’t be great.

If that was my tank I wouldn’t. With the sides being off the table like that and it being a 20g tank. The weight on the silicon and the glass without even weight distribution is asking for a failure. It might not happen. But i wouldn’t test it.

Old real wood stands on marketplace are really cheap, get something solid and a 3/4 inch plywood on top so you have no worries

  4. Short term low risk; long term, ever increasing risk.

The tank isn’t really compromised with a bit of overhang.

That cabinet is awful though. Even if it can hold the static load, the joints are not strong to lateral pressure. And like the other person said, that material may not be designed to handle a lot of moisture.
