My sister bought a fish for my daughter, looking at some older photos it looks like his colors have improved during the short time we have had him.

What else can we include to improve it for him?

I would definitely add more plants. And maybe some rocks or driftwood. And add a thermometer (is the black box in the back a heater?) Also, do you have a filter?
