Hi, I would like to buy a koi betta, but I am concerned that they will change color. How likely is it that a colorful koi betta will end up with a different color?

That, IMO, is a different fish. I have seen koi change shades or get darker but I have never seen a change like that. I have been keeping fish for 15 years and bettas on and off for the same time

The marble genetic trait causes them to change color. I’m not 100% if all the koi has always marble genetics though, I’m not really up to date on the genetics of recent color forms.

It is possible but very rare and the changes often occur from younger betta stages to adulthood

in my experience, koi bettas reach their final appearance around 8 months old.

Definitely! My sweet koi was more of a white and red / blue body but when he got older he was more blue and red and lost a lot of his white

Yes. Most koi or marble bettas will change colors over time. There are a few strands that don’t, but they are very rare.
I have been breeding marble bettas for years and have only ever had 4 that never marbled out of 100s of fish.
