This weekend I lost my betta, Crouton😢. No one warns you about how attached we are going to get to these silly little guys…I’ve been so sad.

I know I will eventually get another, but want to take a couple months before I do. In the meantime….what should I do with his tank? His snail buddy is still happily cleaning away throughout the tank.

Should I do a full clean in case there was anything “bad” that caused his death? (My best assumption is he had dropsy. He declined incredibly quickly, and all parameters where were they should be.) or just keep it as is, so as not to effect the quality for the snail?

My goal had been to upgrade his tank for Christmas- go to a 10 gallon, and switch to all live plants. I can’t $$ justify the upgrade right now, now that he’s gone, but will probably add some live plants and start the transition to get it ready for a new betta in a few months. I just don’t want to accidentally cause stress to the snail if I dump all the water

Just do a gravel vac, and water change. You don’t want to “reset” and crash the cycle. Keep it all running for your snail. Also, in my experience it’s been better to keep it cycled in the off chance you see a new fish that you like.

After I lost mine, I couldn’t bear to look at my empty tank, and when I found a fish that I had loved, I didn’t need to pass him up.
