Betta Fish: My son has a small beta. He hangs out at the top of the tank all the time. I see him swim down every now and again but just chills at top of water level?
We feed about 1 pellet in the morning a day. It almost seems like he had a bad fin. I will be honest I don’t know anything about betas or fish. But trying to help.

what size tank do you have? do you have a filter/heater?
also fake plants/colourful gravel usually causes more harm to the fish than uncoloured gravel and live plants
additionally, what brand of food are you giving? one pellet once a day definitely is not enough 🙁

are you able to get a video of him swimming? he might have buoyancy problems. and he’s the fin is definitely torn, probably from plastic plants in the aquarium. i would advice to swap plastic ones for either silk ones or real plants
