moving my koi betta from a 3.5g to a new 5g tank. set it up last night and added unwashed decor + plants from the original tank. today, did a partial water change with some of his original tank water, and some water treated with stress coat and prime.

levels are still looking iffy- but i want to move him into the new tank ASAP. any suggestions?

(please be kind, i'm new to this hobby and open to tips on how to improve ♡)

More water changes to bring the ammonia levels down but otherwise the other reading levels look optimal!

Be patient don’t rush it. Give it at least 2 weeks preferably a month before you move your betta. It’s just not worth doing your fish harm because you want him in the tank asap. It’s a lot more dangerous putting it in a cycling tank than having it in a 3.5g for a couple weeks.

  3. This shouldn’t take too long to fix, just don’t add anything into the tank until it’s Ammonia is 0 – do 30% water changes every day for 1/2 weeks and adding Prime and Stability each day also should help! 😄 Also the more plants the better when it comes to water stability 🙂

  4. seachem stability is a great product for quicker cycling! also live plants and more small water changes will really help! other then the ammonia levels the parameters are good so it shouldn’t take too long to get the ammonia in check! good luck 🫶🏽

  5. I’m currently cycling a tank for a new betta and started from straight tap water that has been treated and some API starter. You have Nitrates which explains why your nitrite levels are low.

As other suggested just give it some more time. It’s possible the 2nd phase colony just needs to grow a bit to absorb your ammonia, which will cause your nitrites to rise again, followed by a fall in both Nitrites and ammonia once turned into nitrates.

Before adding another fish I would do a 40%ish change and test a day or two after to see how your parameters look.

But this is just my opinion based on where I’m at in my process.
