Hi all! My smaller tank on the left has a lot of Red Cherry Shrimp in it. I’m thinking that I’d like to move some over to one on the right so the smaller tank doesn’t get overcrowded. Is there a good way to know if my betta on the right will get along with some Red Cherry Shrimp? The tank on the left doesn’t have a betta in it. They are both cycled. Also I’m worried about the parameters being too different for the Red Cherry Shrimp as I use RODI water on the smaller tank and Dechlorinator (prime) with my tap water for the larger tank. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Here’s what I would do: Put a couple “test” shrimp in a container. Slowly add water from the other tank to let them acclimate. See if they die. Then, add the shrimp in with betta. See if they die. 😀

  2. OkTranslator5535 on

I would net like 6 then wait about a day or two and see how they are doing. If they are fine send a couple more and see how he responds. Follow that till he either reacts or your confident that it’s OK. Or alternatively add alot of bushy plants and carpeting plants to give them a way to avoid the betta.

  3. The ideal way would be to have the shrimp in the tank first, but i don’t think that would really be possible here!

My betta was fine for weeks, and I still had all 11 shrimp, but one day she just decided she was hungry and munched one, so you can never be too sure!
Definitely need to watch them for a long time to know in my opinion.
