Long time lurker, first time poster…Pretty new to ice fishing, got the gear set up and safety down just don’t really know how to pick spots. Going for Crappie and/or Trout. Planning a trip to Lovewell in Feb. wanted to see what this group suggested for spots.
We are renting a house in the green area. There will be 5 or 6 of us with an ATV so we can have 25-30 lines and try some different spots. Walk/spud/rope if we think it’s questionable (or just drink by the fire).
My initial thought is that the three mounts between the 7 and 19/12 would be good for something but I’m not sure if it would be for crappie/trout.

Aim for the deepest holes for crappie in the winter. They’ll often stack up in the water column. Hunt around for a bit with your flasher and look for suspended fish. Then set up shop. I’ve caught them as close to 2 feet under the ice in 35 feet of water. If there’s a steep drop off to one side of the hole, I usually fish off that, particularly in low light situations. They’ll move from the depths to the shallows to feed at night. That transition is usually the ticket.
If you’re going for trout you want to be close to shore for brookies. I catch the most in places where I can literally see the bottom. Idk about crappie
