As the year wraps up, I’ve been thinking what I’d do if I had to start my fishing adventure all over again

Florida is one of those special places where mastering just a few key things really puts you way ahead of most beginners.

Want to catch snook? Knowing the tides is your best bet.

Want to snag redfish? Understanding water clarity is a game-changer.

Want to reel in trout? Picking the right lure is just a click away.

Here’s the exact plan I’d follow from the end of the year to 2026:

• Start with the basics that really matter: Learn the double uni-Knot (FG honerable mention), Shrimp lures, paddle tails, and how inshore fish hang out in mangroves, docks, and grass flats.

• Fish 1–2 times a week, even if it’s slow. Consistency is key—patterns only show up when you keep showing up.

• Get your tide knowledge dialed in before 2026 arrives.

Incoming = bait flooding toward structure

Outgoing = ambush points turning on

• Let’s practice casting, especially those tricky skips under docks and Mangroves.

• For January 2026, pick ONE species to become a master of:

* Snook (structure)

* Redfish (skinny water)

* Trout (grass flats)

Focus on one month, one species, and zero distractions.

• Get to know the water colors to choose color of lures and leader size to use

• Chat with local anglers. Join Fishing FB groups in your local areas. People love to share on there (Don’t ask for spots!)And don’t be afraid to talk to fisherman around

• Keep a log of every outing: wind, tide, lure, and success. Apps like Catchr or tackle. would make it easier

• Keep repeating this until you’ve caught 5 consistent fish in your chosen species.

• Moon is more important than you think
