I promised myself that lucky 13 tanks was the limit for me. Many are nanos and I have an empty 40g breeder in the basement… but 14 seems like over the line;)

But the. I was at my Meijers last night and there were the most beautiful angels, dwarf gourami, and Raphael catfish (none of which I own now) and sooooo many dead fish in these tanks.. the saddest looking bettas, koi, etc.

And well… I want to save them all! And I have the tank and filters and…

Do I have a problem?

Would dwarf gouramis and angels be good together in a 40 breeder?

I know there’s dead fish in the tanks, but I could treat them all together…

Please talk me out of this… or into this…

  1. Yeah. A serious problem. 14 is not enough. Kick out some stuff. Who needs a kitchen? You can make plenty of room for more tanks.

No need to thank me. I´m always pleasured to help!

  2. My two cents, dont give money to establishments that just have dead fish on display, I know fish die here and there and lfs sometimes have some since they get fish shipped, but really, all big places care about is numbers, so dont buy their dying sad fish, number go up they buy more fish, let them have losses, its sad, but let them lose till they stop selling fish like walmart.

Now if you can go in and get the fish for free thats another thing, if they will give you the sick fish for free then go for it, but do not give them a dime.

Yes those kallax shelves aren’t meant to hold that much weight. I would consider finding a sturdier shelving solution. I believe each of those shelves is only rated for 14 pounds.

Genuine question.. how do you maintain the tanks on the black shelf? It looks like a kallax unit and you can’t just pull them off because they’re heavy

    It’s a syndrome…. Multiple Tank Syndrome.

By the way, that’s chump numbers. You need a minimum of 20 to really be all in. I have 30, race, yuh

If it’ll make you happy to save them, there’s nothing wrong with that! I started fostering kittens recently, and they’re a lot more disruptive than my shrimp tanks lmao. But I did have to accept I can’t save them all, and stop myself from sacrificing too much for it. IMO it’s more important to find a lasting peace with the fact that these stores (and their supply chains) exist, whether that includes personally saving fish or not

  7. Sorry you’re not saving any fish. You’re just encouraging the store to continue buying fish because you continue to buy “save” their fish. Now, if you get them free, that’s a different story.

  8. The humidity from the aquariums will ruin your record covers, your book and maybe the shelves.

  9. Dwarf gourami arent worth buying imo. Insanely sickly and overbred fish which youre lucky to get a year of pain and suffering out of.

  10. You should work on cable/ tube management. Make some channels through the bookshelf for concealment. Then atleast you’ll be less of a hoarder and more of a hobbyist

  11. Level with yourself. Are you really saving them, or just making an excuse to justify another tank?
