Hi guys! I’m new here and was looking for some advice. I am not a new betta owner, I had them growing up as well and all of them lived to be pretty old men haha. I am however starting a new tank (about a month in). I haven’t started a new tank in years, and I’m pretty unfamiliar with the process now that I’m thinking about it. My little guy (i haven’t named him yet) is very happy and social, has no problem with eating and isn’t stressed out. I am however starting to notice how cloudy the water has been even with water changes and conditioner. Do y’all think this is just a bloom or have I done something wrong with the way I started my tank? Like I said I haven’t started a new tank in years haha. I’ll put a pic on here and if anyone can give me some advice that’d be great. He is near a window but I try to make sure there’s not too much light on the tank as I understand that can be responsible for cloudiness a well. I also intend to add more to the tank in terms of plants/hidey holes. Thanks for having me and I’m looking forward to being a part of this sub!

Do you have a liquid test kit? I would recommend checking your parameters. Your tank may not be properly cycled and going through a bacteria bloom that could be harmful/stressful for your little guy

It’s a bacteria bloom, usually a result of excess nutrients in the water. If you feed your plants nutrients I would significantly reduce or stop. You should get an air stone for good aeration because blooms typically cause hypoxia (low oxygen levels). You also want to do minimal/small water changes during a bacteria bloom. They’ll just go away after a couple days, harmless to fish. 😁
