I got a new tank, 18 gallons set up yesterday and started cycling.
I was mostly using fresh/dry driftwood, but I got one piece with an Anubius grown on it from a LFS. Apparently it came with this little guy.
The tank has some cycled media, mainly the Anubius on driftwood from the store, and a black lava rock from my existing tank, the rock had only been in my fully established tank for about 2 weeks before moving it into the new tank so it might not have ajd that much bacteria on it.
Before realizing this guy was in there I added some ammonia sources, an algae wafer and some tropical fish food.
Will he be okay in here going through the cycle? I can move him into my current tank, 4.5 gallons with a Betta (temporary tank, my Betta will be moving to the 18 gallon as soon as it's ready) but I think my Betta will make him into a snack.
And any ideas on what exactly he is??? Once he's big enough to not be eaten by my Betta will they be able to get along?

Sorry forgot to add my parameters.
    pH 6.8
    gh below 1
    kh about 2

Ammonia, nitrite and Nitrates I’m not sure if. I usually take water from my existing tank to my LFS to be tested since they do free water testing, so I don’t have a test kit on hand to check these.

It’s difficult to tell the size of the fish from the photos, but to me it doesn’t look small enough for a betta to eat it. It looks like the sort of fish a betta would ignore entirely.

Some kind of juvenile pleco. Probably something in the ancistrus or baryancistrus group
