He’s a half moon, believe it or not. I haven’t owned a betta fish in about 3 years, but I have tropical fish and goldie tanks so I had a hospital setup at home anyway. When I saw him, he was lying curled up on the bottom of the tank and was barely visible, the girl in the store asked if he was even alive. He moved when she picked up the display tank to hand him over, and that’s when I snapped this pic.

Yeah I know it’s not good to buy from a store that has them in this condition but I couldn’t let him stay where he was, I’m a big lover of my fishy friends and he truly broke my heart.

He’s now been in my little 11L hospital tank with lovely clean water, a gentle filter I keep specifically for hospital setups, a couple of plants from my main tank, Melafix, and Broad Spectrum Remedy all day and he’s got a tiny bit of energy, but he has yet to eat (I offered about 3 bloodworms and he wasn’t having it) – but I feel good that if he’s come this far then he might eat in a day or two.

I just wanted to share this with my fellow fish lovers but if you have rescued a betta in this condition before and have any hot tips I’d love to hear them!

Also name suggestions if you fancy. I like animals with human names and I think I’m vibing with Jerry.
