New to bettas! We just rescued this little guy out of a pet store container into a 10 gallon aquarium (alone). Will his ‘half moon’ grow and recover or likely stay like this? What’s your opinion on tank mates?

Oh boy, good luck with him. His tail will grow back, it will start out clear when it’s growing but slowly gain color with age. I would recommend small tetras or corys, snails and shrimp are always good options. But you have to figure out his personality first, make sure he won’t just massacre anything you add to the tanks. You can do that by buying 1-2 tetras and placing the bag in the tank like your acclimating them and see how he reacts.

The rule of thumb is avoiding things flashier/slow (guppies, mollies), things that are aggressive (Some danios, larger tetras, etc etc) And that’s especially since he’s long finned, fin nippers can stress him out pretty bad.

Here’s a pic of what my bettas fins look like while they grow out. Got her for free at a petsmart bc her fins were tattered, but they’re growing back. Shes almost entirely non aggressive, i had her in a 5gal with molly fry and 2 amano shrimp and she never bit at any of them once. So it really does just depend on the personality
