I have an older version of that drill and it does work but is hard on the drill I am going to upgrade to a fuel version of it this yr

I would recommend the 2903-20 model.

I’ll be the first to point out that I have dewalt tools mainly. That said, I think you want the hammer drill version. Seems like a lot of guys have good luck with the 2904-20, though maybe there’s a newer model now.
I think the specs online show the model in the picture produces about 550 in-lbs of torque while the 2904 produces 1400 in-lbs.
Before I got my dewalt 999 (998? I forget, but the one from lowes) – I ran an older dewalt and while it did work, you could tell it was hard on the drill. I always run in drill mode (not hammer), at the lowest speed setting.
I particularly like using the offset handle thing to get more leverage on the auger. I feel like I can put my body into it better and it’s less of a wrist-twister.
Good luck!

I can’t speak for with use of the Clam plate, but I use Milwaukee 2704-22 on a 8″ Nils (no plate, just use the drill handle). Not sure if the compact versions would have enough nuts to get through.
