Don't mind the image of an ember tetra but I get this question a lot about what people can keep with their betta fish and here are the ones that will work

  1. Bristle nose pleco (only in tank 15 gallons minimum)

2.Clown pleco (Also tank 15 gallons minimum]

  1. Cardinal and ember tetras (These are pretty fish that go well with your betta

4.Otocinclus catfish {only if really experienced really hard to care for}

  1. Corydoras (Perfect bottom dwellers)

  2. Nerite snails and Ghost shrimp (these will clean up your tank or just make your tank look cool Ps. don't get zebra nerites)

Tank mates to Avoid

Fin nipping fish like tiger barbs, Serpae tetras and Buenos Aries Tetras

Cichlids (Unless fully peaceful ones like Rams)

Tank mates that might work but proceed with caution

African dwarf frog (picky eaters and might get outcompeted by betta fish but just target feed and your betta NEEDS to be Peaceful)

Mystery snail (Might work but I have had to many of my betta's bite of their whiskers)

Please tell me what tank mates worked and didn't work in your tank or tell me more tank mates that I missed.

    Kuhlis work, but 30g up and with a ton of plants to allow space for as many as possible (minimum 6) and to help them feel safe and under cover.

    I have a female Betta with 3 small nerite snails, 6 pepper cories in a 20 gallon long. The Betta is a whole party but sometimes spends quiet time hiding in a coconut shell with one of the cories. Lots of plants, hiding spots made with rocks and all together it’s a very peaceful, friendly tank. (There was 1 amano who also was super friendly but sadly a bad molt got her 💔)

  3. Ember tetras seem to be working for me. Admittedly, my Betta is not very aggressive, and I’ve got enough plants and hardscape to break up sight lines.
