Moving across the country in roughly a week. Is 4 gallons of water enough to save for the tank rebuild?

29 gallon fresh water tank

2 newts

6-10 shrimp

1 mystery snail

1 ramshorn snail

1 soon to be army of Malaysian trumpet snails

Newts are ~ 1 year old, haven’t morphed yet, setup

Is usually ~18-20 gal water, very small land mass above water.

My thoughts are 20% recycled water should be enough to easily setup a new tank. I’m concerned the water may spoil as it will be in containers from today until Jan 1. Also concerned the water quality may be vastly different at our destination and I will have wished I had saved more. This is my first time resetting a tank, as well as moving my amphibious and aquatics creatures.

  1. Water has next to no beneficial bacteria if thats what youre wondering about.

You need substrate, plants, filter media, wood, etc from the tank.
