Found a marketplace deal for an Orvis Clearwater 8wt 9’, with a Sage Spectrum LT 7/8. I only have a 5wt beginner rod and want to fly fish for steelhead, just want to be sure this is an ok deal and that the reel and rod will be compatible.

That’ll do. What part of the country are you in? Get to a fly shop and get some good input on lines. Dont skimp too much on the line and you’ll be happier with your setup. This will also make a great setup for tossing big bass streamers and poppers and for carping. I’ve used my 9’ 8wt setup on everything. Steelhead, bull trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth, carp, and even caught some fish inshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
I think that’s a great looking combo for what you want. There are probably more steelhead specific rods out there, but it sounds like you are early in your fly fishing career, and this is an extremely versatile rod.
