dropsy

New fish/accidental owner here.

My son brought home this poor betta from school 2 weeks ago. She’s been recovering in a warm tank with water changes every 2 days with kanaplex and salt baths every day. She has a good appetite but I try to fast her every other day. I haven’t seen her poop at all. She doesn’t move much but when she see’s me, she perks up and will swim up and down for a few seconds. She’s incredibly bloated and as you can see from the photos, severely pineconing.

Everything that I’ve read tells me that this is fatal and that I should euthanize sooner rather than later.

I just want to get some reassurance from people here that I will be doing the right thing as it’s tearing me up inside. I plan to pick up the clove oil tomorrow but just need some support from kind strangers.

Definitely euthanized. I had a betta die of dropsy and I wish I would’ve euthanized him sooner :(. It sucks watching them go through this but it’s best to end their pain early. You’re making the right decision. Best of luck ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

  2. I am very usually all for either treating the issues or letting nature take its course. I don’t usually euthanize unless it’s a big problem and a fish is truly suffering. This fish will not make it, she will feel the pressure, she will *want* to die, if her brain is capable of such a thought.

Please put her out of her misery. Even I would do it, at this point.
