I got back home from a night out to find my boy wasn't in his tank. He always showed up to greet me, so I panicked. I've been meaning to put a net on top of the tank to prevent him from jumping, but unfortunately I've been too busy. I don't know how long he was out of the water, but I found him right next to the tank and immediately put him back. He wasn't too dry, so I'm hoping he wasn't out too long. Just the tip of his tail was dry and it stuck to the desk. He's swimming a little bit sideways, just staying in this one spot now. I added tannis to help prevent infection on his tail that got ripped. Is he going to be okay?
He's currently in a 10 gallon with some neo shrimp and a mystery snail. Temp is at 80F, ammonia is 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5, ph is 7.4.

Also, I am going to immediately put that net over his tank to prevent future jump attempts.
I think he will be okay. Do everything you said you would do, plus keep the lights dimmed for a couple of days to avoid stressing him. Feed light meals at first and remove whatever he doesn’t go for immediately.
The same thing happened to me with a betta. She had a lid but jumped out during a water change and fell into the hamster’s cage. She swam sideways for a day and then after some rest, recovered from her ordeal and returned to her sassy, reckless self.
I’m glad you were able to rescue it in time! I had about 10 cm of glass above the water level and thought that would be fine, then found mine almost dry on the floor. I have NO idea how long she spent there, but she recovered anyway. Like the other commenter said, I kept the lights dim for a couple days and monitored for any signs of illness/infection.
