Came with nothing but this, tank, gravel, and a water pump, and fih 🐟 ofc, split tank, question is, why is the male (blue) so lively while pink (female) so passive, does it see the blue through the divider and get nervous?

  1. I would highly recommend getting them their own tanks. Split tanks are not great. And it could be that the girl is just stressed and maybe sick after being in the store or maybe she can sense the male through the screen? I would keep the lights off for now to reduce stress. Did you get water conditioner ? They’re going to need a heater as well.

  2. This is actually my brother’s, i just did it for him, he doesn’t want it and nor does anyone else, I kinda do but cant, also no space, we want to give him away, I wish people wouldn’t give fish as gifts, ig goldfish are fine, but definitely not bettas

  3. i recommend getting each their own tank. petsmart has a 50% sale on tank kits if you sign up for the rewards. you should get each a minimum of 3 gallons. though i’d push for 5 if possible. fill both with plenty of LIVE plants. you don’t want fake plants. they can be sharp and harm ur fish. Also real plants help keep ur water clean. petsmart has an aquatic plant section. provide plenty of hiding places. you’ll need them each a heater and filter. betta fish are great and u can really bond with them, they can even recognize ur face and get excited to see you, so give them a fair chance. It’s unfair that this person carelessly gifted you these fish, and i hope they’re able to flourish under ur care. đŸ«¶ i got one betta fish and fell and love and now i care for a few.

Their conditions aren’t ideal for either of them to thrive since it was very last minute but also when they come out of those little cups it can take a while to get them back to full health. Looks like the female has laid fins due to stress. Bettas need more than you would think. If you aren’t prepared to add a heater/filter, aquasoil, plants, tannins, etc I would honestly just rehome them to someone who has the stuff on hand. Once they begin to thrive they really are beautiful and intelligent fish. I had a 20gal tank on hand from past projects as well as spare plants/substrate/heater/filter so I cycled it and ended up getting a sick betta for free, bringing it back to health and adding him in. Obviously you don’t need a full 20gal setup but a 5.5-10 is a good start. I’ve heard more people have better luck with the 10 but considering your situation I wouldn’t blame you if you stuck to the minimum requirements. Now mine (his name is fizz) explores, swims around, gets excited when he sees me and will chase my finger on the glass. His colors are also MUCH more vibrant than before. They’re honestly the cat/dog version of fish

Yeah I don’t understand live fish as a white elephant gift. Extreme example but imagine giving a puppy or kitten as a white elephant gift. Same thing, fish require love, care and responsibility and not everyone can.
