Hello! My sibling snagged a freshwater aquarium from a buy nothing group that as far as we knew just had a couple of snails and some plants hanging out in it. Surprise! Turns out there were two squiggly little friends hiding and we can't figure out what they are. They don't look like eels. Are they a type of loach?

Hopefully the video loads well, but they're roughly 3 1/2 – 4 inches long, kind of a reddish pink belly, faintly golden sheen, teeny whiskers.

Any help much appreciated.

Almost looks like Vandellia cirrhosa, but thats not a fish you see in the hobby often, golden eel loach(Pangio kuhlii var. gold) is my guse as thats clearly not a standard Kuhli loache

  2. Post in r/loaches and they can help ID the exact variety of kuhli loach! They look slightly different than black kuhlis, my guess is either a full grown golden kuhli or some species that isn’t very common! If you happen to be in PDX I would buy them off you!

It resembles a black Kuhli loach (Java loach), but Pangio is a diverse genus, and is full of look-alikes. I doubt many of our Kuhli loaches are actually Kuhli loaches (and mixed species might be part of what makes them difficult to spawn).
