Betta Fish: Top fin modification check

I’m trying to wean my top fin silent stream 10 off of the refillable cartridge packs and get into a sponge system or DIY media

Right now I have the included cart with the good bacteria

New aqua clear sponge
And some filter floss which also is baffling the flow for the betta.

Any suggestions? I’m over thinking myself
