Built this tank on November 10ish, everything was going well with tap water. Got two nerita snails, still have to add the fishes since I'm gonna be out of town for a month.
Last week I got some crystal shrimps (Caridina Logemanni) and since I was reading that they prefer soft water to breed, I bought some demineralized water and mixed it with tap, did a 50% water change checking the values with the strips. Mixed the water on a bucket of course.
All my shrimps are dead and the cryptocoryne is melting.
WTF happened?!
(Merry Christmas!)

The change was too sudden.
Shrimp are extremely sensitive to swinging parameters. Even with fish it would be advised to only increase/decrease water hardness with 1°dh each day.
Cryptocorne is notorioiusly for melting if introduced to a new watersource with different parameters. It often fully melts but should regrow.
