This tank has been cycling for about two weeks now and I plan to get a betta for it in about a month or so. I’m going for a blue theme but I just feel like something about the design is lacklustre and not quite hitting the mark I wanted. I’m hoping the Java fern will grow bigger so that my fish has more places to hide, but yeah.
I’ve also sanded down anything that has sharp edges. The plants are all silk (:

It’s beautiful!
Excellent job for cycling it!! I personally would put some more plants in there because you can’t go wrong with some more plants 🙂 they will make the environment so much more vibrant and alive and the oxygen the plants produce will be beneficial.
I think it would be fun to add some floating plants, as they provide shelter from the light and help to reduce the nitrite levels, I would also look for a “betta leaf” or some floating hammock type creation as Bettas like to be close to the surface so they can breathe. Also I wouldn’t be set on this tank in the long term… just the shape isn’t my favourite as Betta’s flourish in 5+ gallon long tanks which are shallower
Its lovely but a bit small and the shape isnt good for the longterm. The decor looks it could snag their fins unfortunately? Also are those crystals? I had some in my tank and it threw ofd the ph completely so I would keep an eye on it
Seems you are on the right path! I like the color design of this a lot. I would add some plants as the others said. They help a ton with nitrate levels and providing cover and healthy oxygen levels. I’d get some Anubis and place it on your wood as the gravel you are using wouldn’t have the nutrients some root feeders need unless you were using root tabs. Floating plants too! I would be careful with colorful gravel as it’s been said that the paint from them and leak into your water over time which can’t be good for fishies.
Need to put something near the waterline for the betta to rest on. Even if it’s a tall plant with the right sized leaves.
