So i upgraded the filter on my main community tank last week (all the media from the old one went in it and no issues since).

My new filter is an Oase Biomaster 350, which comes with a cool pre-filter thing you can take out very easily (the idea being that you clean that often but the main filter less often).

Today was the first day I cleaned the pre-filter and I put the contents of that water into a bowl, just to see how mucky the water would be after a week.

Not that mucky but about 20 neo shrimplets and 5 Mountain Minnow fry!

I've put them back into the tank along with a big pre filter sponge over the intake pipe itself.

Lesson learned as a newbie, use a pre-filter sponge!

I have shrimplets in my prefilter, and probably in the main compartment- even with a prefilter sponge. BUT the prefilter sponge is pretty coarse.
