I am looking for tips, tricks, recommendations and nuances I should look out for in a low tech planted tank. I have maintained successful non planted tanks in the past so I'm not completely new.
About a week ago I set up an 11.5 gallon bookshelf tank. The dimensions are 38" x 8.7" x 8.7" (iirc)
I have about 2 inches of Fluval Stratum capped with an inch of fine black sand from AquaTerra
I added seachem stability and conditioned the water with Fluval AquaPlus. I let it run for a few days, and then I added plants. I went through my first bacteria bloom and the water was real cloudy, I let that run its course for another couple days and did a small 10% water change. I then dosed with Thrive.
The plants I currently have are Wisteria, Ludwigia, Giant Hairgrass, Pearlweed, Hooker Moss and a Sword. I am using Fluval Aquasky for lighting.
I'm just looking for a sense of direction now I think. Do I wait to see if the plants survive? Should I let it finish cycling and think about adding fish? What would your next step be?
Sorry for the lengthy post but I wanted to make sure I provided all the important information.
