hi so i’m freshly new new to the betta fish game — pretty sure i’ve got a female? betta fish.
I got her for christmas and want to make sure she’s super happy & healthy 🙂

I’ve done i think everything i should? Live plants coming in the mail, betta fish hammock is installed, filter, heater, snails, hiding spots. woohoo!

The one thing i haven’t done is name her. I think a name will put it over the top, i want to personify her to help my family (and me) care for her even more. So, any names would be awesome, i haven’t heard one that’s spoken to me as of yet.

One potential inspo is how she eats — maybe this is super common in the betta world, but she frequently spits and plays with her food, maybe a name inspired by that? Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated, tyia !

You say you want the best for your betta, and it looks like you are on the right path, but the photo seems to suggest that you’ve placed your betta in a less-than-ideal bowl which looks likely less than the 5 gallon recommended minimum. Temporarily that’s fine, but it’s not good long-term.

**Def check this out:** [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hIaSzI2uuak](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hIaSzI2uuak) – you kinda jumped the gun a bit in getting your betta before having a nitrogen-cycled tank ready in advance, but you can hopefully keep your betta alive with Fish-In cycle by daily water testing and frequent water changes. Please look into & research the matter of “Fish-In cycling” in more detail & depth – it is VERY important if you want your betta to pull through the process with minimal stress and the least possibility of death/illness.

Your fish’s clamped fins are a sign of stress about the water conditions. See the other poster’s excellent links. Did you add a water conditioner?
