I was at Petco letting my kid pick some new decor for her aquarium, and I just felt so bad for this little guy. I initially thought he was dead, he barely responded to me messing with his cup at all. $25 koi betta, brought him home. Probably a lost cause, I dunno.
Anyway, he's in a long established, planted 10 gallon aquarium that just has bladder snails and 3 platy.
He moves very infrequently, with a mighty struggle. His rear end seems to sort of drag behind and off to the side. I haven't gotten him to eat anything yet. He doesn't respond much to anything.
To be fair, I've had him less than 48 hours as of now.
Does he just need time? I normally just go for a very healthy looking fish.

  1. If he’s in the right environment, he will eventually thrive , no betta should ever live in a cup , they need so much care , just like all animals

  2. I think it’s likely that he’ll perk up with time. Having a lot of hiding spaces may help him adjust and start to feel more at home. Sometimes the toxicity of the water in the cups does cause deformation and other health problems but I really think he may be ok with a caring home

  3. Hopefully he perks up, he looks so thin D: keep an eye that the platys are not stressing him out more they can be kind of pushy.

I’d say if you’re able to maybe make a hospital tank for him with some almond leaves and daily water changes until he perks up

  4. by the way the color is already coming back, your betta is healing and you did a great thing. hopefully this betta will eventually heal up.

maybe get some tannin tea bags or leaves to help them get better over time.

if the betta can’t make it you should know that ur fishy passed in a good home while healing.
