Treated myself to a new rod and reel but I just wanted to seek some recommendations for what lb test would be best for fishing for walleye and small mouth bass in clear water lakes around 15-25 feet depth with mostly rocky bottom/some vegetation. I bought some 10lb test braid and typically run a 8lb floro leader. Is it overthinking to drop down to 8lb braid? Does anyone have good experience with the Seaguar braid?
Reel: Diawa Regal 2500
Rod: Diawa Tatula 7’1” medium light extra fast
Line: Seaguar 10# smackdown braid

I’ve been testing different lines and really like Seaguar for my UL fishing. Pairing it with Seaguar 10lb fluro and works well so far. Mainly using this for trout and smaller fish. I recently picked up 30lb Suffix 832 for my heavier sets. I’m finding the best combo of line / leader by how well they tie together. Not sure if there’s an exact science outside of what works best

Either 8lb or 10lb braid is good. I use both and there really isn’t a significant difference in casting distances. I have not had any issue with breaking off with 8lb braid.
The Regal LT 2500D has a deep spool so you’ll probably want to add quite a bit of backing.
I fish a lot of small mouth and mostly for walleye. 6 to 10lbs braid is fine paired with 8 or 10lbs fluoro.
I use 12 lb suffix 832 on my ml finesse spin rod. I change the leader between 6,8, or 10 lb fluoro depending on what specific technique and lure I’m fishing at the moment. I mostly catch walleye and smallmouth bass with it and it works great.
