Hi everyone! I've been lurking in this community for a while but I wanted to make a post as I would like to get a Betta in the future as I have a tank I think is definitely large enough (and I've done some research and believe I can fulfil what they need)
(PS: I know the tank is kinda dirty and its got stuff in it, I need to clean it- its second hand and I've been busy lmao)

However I do have a few questions I couldn't find answers to so I thought it best to ask reddit.

1) so my tank is 60.5(long)-50(tall)-36-30(Wide)cm's and holds about 90L iirc? (I can't remember the exact water amount but it's around 90) However, I've heard some people say that some tanks can be too big, and that Betta's prefer longer, shallower tanks. So would the size and dimensions of the tank be an issue?

2) With the tank having a curved front cause issues? I've heard it can be an issue with some fish but I haven't heard it being an issue for Betta's, however I thought it would be relevant to ask lmao.

3) How should I go about making a lid/roof if I am able to have a Betta in this tank, as it didn't come with a lid and I know Betta's have a habit of jumping, so could I make a mesh or acrylic lid or what would be the best option?

4) Is there anything I should know that isn't really "common knowledge" about Betta's that may Impact down the line?

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it!

  1. Ok so 1. Ur tank would deff be fine but for something around 90 L get a shorter finned Betta longer fins need slightly smaller tanks both my boys (Veil tail “scrim” and Giant koi Plakat “Alibarbar”) are both on the smaller side fins both are in 59 L and a 65L and have no problems so I don’t think you should either (depends on your fish honestly)

    2. I also don’t exactly see a problem but again depends on the fish Ik the full curved ones r fine but actually have never need ur tank b4 it looks really cool

    3. At my pet store they have this plastic “netting” which actually works as a really good barrier and can cut if you have drift wood sticking out here’s a photo:

It works quite well and isn’t too small for my Giant however my other (scrim) is lidless and he hasn’t made an attempt at jumping out (again depends on your Betta)

    4. Get “resting” spots like a betta hammock or some leaves they can rest on saves them being on gravel etc and it looks so cute to!
