Main question: how does a betta belly look normally? This guy is skinny. Only been out of Petco for a week and some change. I'm increasing his feeding a little and because he's skinny his belly always seems fat/swollen but he also seems like he's starving. I'm feeding 3 times a day but not the as much as they can eat in x minutes method. That seems like so much but I'm not sure to be honest.

ABOUT HIS SETUP: I promise I am aware it is inadequate. His home is temporary and getting upgraded to 5.5 gallons in a couple weeks(however long it takes to finish its cycle). HIS PARAMETERS ARE FINE(only all caps because I know how y'all are I wanted to make sure you see this). I test for them daily and do water changes. Duckweed(Lemna and Spirodela) and hornwort are being used to help with water quality. Moss is for comfort and the cholla wood and anubias was a betta buddy thing. Seeded this jar with a little mulm as well to help get bacteria going.

Please be nice, this is not how I keep my fish. I'm helping someone who got ahead of themselves and "saved" 2 betta without having 2 tanks ready for them.

He definitely seems full but i wouldnt say severely bloated, unless he looks round from the front as well, he seems to be a very wide/large bodied betta in general. Id fast for a day or two personally then lower feeding amount and see if it helps, but nothing to panic over yet. When it comes to overweight/underweight, you can only tell from a top view since different types of bettas have different body shapes from the side
