30 inch for the rod, size 40 for the reel, and 2lb mono. This look good?

Check out the okuma celilo ultralight and maybe look into a 1000 or 2000 reel

  2. Mate, ultralight ice fishing is with a tiny little reel. Go down to Pflueger’s size 20….

Everyone raves about the pflueger president which I listened to but I regret buying mine. I like my shimanos way more even the cheaper ones

If you plan on casting at all those rods won’t work. They’re made for ice fishing aka dropping straight down into a hole. That reel is way too big. Get a 10 or 20 size president

  5. What’s your budget look like? You can cast with an ice rod, but you’ll need a significant amount of weight and it won’t be far.

  6. This is a gravely mismatched combo. Here’s some advice assuming you’re genuinely asking and not trolling…

First, that’s an ice fishing rod – you won’t be able to cast very effectively, if at all using it. If you want an ultralight for general purpose you want to look for something in the 5-6ft range.

Second, a 4000 size reel l is quite big by normal standards, and on an ultralight rod it will be HUGE. While there is no standardized system for reel sizing, most manufacturers are in the same ballpark – for an ultralight combo you want something in the 1000 size range (some manufacturers will call this “10”, instead of 1000). I have heard that Pflueger reels tend to run small, so you might consider a 20 size reel if you’re going to stick with the Pflueger President (I think that might actually be the smallest one they make).

2lb mono is very light line. People use it in certain circumstances but it’s *very* light. For general purposes I’d look at 4-6lb mono.
