hes been slightly less active for a couple weeks I figured it was due to age. I just noticed his eye a second ago. He is flaring in the 3rd photo.
Last 2 photos are of his tank. 40 gal. Paramaters are good, stable for 6+ months. Some live plants. lots of concrete, glass, rocks, ect. Everything in there had every edge, lip, and corner thoroughly sanded smooth to avoid scrapes / injury.

Doesn’t look like there’s any pineconing to me, but he most likely has popeye. Make sure to test your water, “good parameters” isn’t very specific; you want 0 ppm nitrites, nitrates and ammonia. Id also recommend look into some medications, such as kanaplex. Salt baths may also be helpful. I’ve luckily never dealt with popeye, so my advice is relatively basic. I hope your little guy starts feeling better soon, good luck!
