Just received my Betta, he has stiff ventral fins and some eye and gill issues. He is swimming around ok, exploring and has spunk.

Does this look genetic? I'm disappointed because I went out of my way to pay a bit for him from a reputable place.

I know bettas just have issues I've owned a few in the past long and short fin but I haven't seen this.

Considering his color is vibrant (for a pastel betta), his fins look healthy, and he has energy, he’s mostly fine. It looks like he unfortunately does have diamond eye which will, at this point, probably result in permanent blindness in that eye. I would look into some treatment options for diamond eye to help, and best case scenario he’ll have some depth-perception issues. Hope you can find some answers 🫶

If he’s still a very recent aquisition, he might be fine but needs some time to cope and heal – most places have them in fairly small enclosures and if he got shipped to you he might need time to recover from stress.

The eye looks like diamondeye to me, nothing to be done there, it’s the thicker scales growing over the eye – it’s common in all types with thicker scales sich as Platium wich your looks a lot like.

The fins are delivmcate and some damage can happen during transport, most of the time they get better with good water quality and time, sometimes they can start getting worse in wich case you want to treat with an antibiotic.

So all in all: Monitor and if he gets worse, give him an antibiotic.
