I’m really interested in a short (5’2”) Rod vault for inside my camper shell, anyone have any recommendations on brands? I’ve only been able to find this one from Riversmith

  1. Why would you want a rod vault that already fits inside your vehicle? Kind of defeats the purpose of the expensive vaults?

  2. Why not just run bungees along under the roof? That’s the way most guides who don’t have rod tubes do it here in Montana. Not much point in paying for a rod vault if the rods aren’t out in the elements and/or available to thieves. You could also use PVC tubes if you are worried about the rods surviving a bad accident.

I have the Trxstle CRC vault. It telescopes, so it can be either compact or full length. It’s also very easy to take on and off the car (5 minutes to put on, 2 minutes to take off), which I really like. A friend of mine has the Riversmith 4 banger and it’s basically a permanent fixture on their car because it’s difficult to remove and reinstall. Have had the Trxstle for 3 years and my only complaint is the buttons that allow you to release each segment can be tricky to fully compress.

  4. The small vaults that need the rod broken down completely defeat the purpose of a rod vault imo. I run a bungees across the back seat and cargo area coat hangers in my 4runner so I can dangle a rod broken in half inside the car. Safely locked inside the car from thieves and held above any gear/passengers/dog. And best part is it cost me $3, not $600.
